How to Extend Sand Machine Lifespan: Foundation & 4+24 Commissioning Protocols - Hengtai Manufacture

1. The Foundation: Structural Anchoring & Lifting Clearance

Because vertical shaft impactors operate under immense rotational speeds and extreme kinetic energy, structural integrity begins at ground level. Hengtai Manufacture emphasizes that the sand making machine must be anchored onto a heavy-duty concrete foundation capable of supporting multiple times the machine's static weight. During installation, the main shaft must be precision-leveled to be perfectly vertical to the horizontal plane.

Furthermore, structural layout planning must account for maintenance access. Overhead lifting mechanisms must be pre-installed and rated for the maximum weight of the machine's heaviest components to facilitate smooth rotor swaps. Adequate lateral clearance is equally mandatory for routine technical inspections. For a structural visual reference, view the Hengtai VSI Crusher On-Site Installation Video.

2. The Critical Commissioning Protocol: 4-Hour No-Load & 24-Hour Full-Load Tests

Never rush a newly installed or overhauled sand machine into immediate production. A strict, multi-phase commissioning sequence must be executed:

  • Pre-Start Inspection: Verify that all lubrication lines are tightly sealed and free of air blocks. Prior to the first run, inject high-grade automotive lubricant or No. 3 lithium-based grease. Manually inspect the rotor to ensure it is completely free of foreign debris.

  • Motor Rotation Alignment: Jog the electric motor to verify that the rotor spins precisely in the direction indicated by the machine’s arrow plate. Reverse rotation is strictly prohibited. For dual-motor drive models, ensure both motors possess identical drive belt counts and that tension is balanced across the main shaft assembly.

  • 4-Hour No-Load Test: Once cleared, run the machine empty for a continuous 4 hours. Monitor bearing temperature rises and listen for any abnormal vibration or frictional noise.

  • 8-to-24-Hour Full-Load Test: Only after a successful empty trial can material feeding commence. The feed size must stay strictly within the machine's maximum input rating. Gradually increase feed volume to full load, maintaining operation for 8 to 24 hours to stress-test the mechanical systems.

3. The 4 Golden Operational Rules to Prevent Sudden Machine Failure

Over 90% of premature motor burnouts and mechanical shaft damage are caused by operator error. Every plant technician must adhere to these four operational boundaries:

  1. Never start the machine with material inside the crushing cavity! The sand making machine must always be started completely empty. Starting under load forces the electric motor to overcome excessive initial torque, leading to instantaneous motor burnouts or catastrophic rotor damage. The golden startup sequence is: Start Discharge Conveyor → Start VSI Crusher → Wait for Normal RPM → Begin Material Feed. When shutting down, reverse the sequence: cut the feed first, wait for the crushing chamber to completely empty itself, then power down the main motors.

  2. Strictly control maximum feed sizing! Every VSI crusher has a strict physical ceiling for input material. If oversized rocks enter the chamber, they will clog the feed tube, unbalance the high-speed rotor, accelerate uneven wear on the distribution cone, and potentially warp the main shaft. Any oversized raw material must be scalped off before the feed bin.

  3. Never run dry of lubrication! Metal-on-metal components moving at extreme velocities demand consistent thermal protection. Lubricate bearings every 100 operating hours with premium No. 3 lithium grease. If you upgrade to the Hengtai VSI Series Crusher, the integrated German-designed oil lubrication station takes over, featuring dual-pump redundancy and automatic thermal protection to keep bearings at a constant temperature.

  4. Stop immediately if abnormal vibration or noise occurs! High-frequency kinetic motion can loosen even heavy-duty industrial bolts over time. If the crusher displays a sudden spike in vibration or strange internal acoustic feedback, hit the emergency stop immediately. Once the machine has come to a complete halt, open the inspection doors to identify the looseness or worn wear part, and retorque all structural connections before resuming work.
